EMERGENCY SERVICES PHYSICIAN: Location: Portland, OR. CERFP Medical Element's Mission: To provide sophisticated and short duration, pre-hospital emergency medical treatment during a Chemical, Biological, Radiological/Nuclear and Explosive (CBRNE) - Enhanced Response Force Package (CERFP) team. Specifically, the team works with decontamination and/or casualty extraction teams to provide emergency medical triage, treatment, and stabilization prior to evacuation. Duties and responsibilities: Examines, diagnoses, and treats illnesses and injuries in the acute care setting; provides immediate diagnosis and resuscitation care for life-threatening conditions, and directs the provision of such care in the pre-hospital setting; provides diagnosis and care on the basis of medical history, physical examination, and diagnostic tests; provides supportive care to patients with serious medical and surgical conditions until the care of that patient can be assumed by the appropriate specialist; provides definitive or interim care for conditions that, while not life-threatening, cause discomfort or risk of worsening to the extent that such care cannot be reasonably delayed until the next available access into a more appropriate source for care; directs the operation of hospital emergency care services; and plans and directs the operation of emergency care-systems, including pre-hospital care. This position is with the Oregon Air National Guard. This is a military position. This will require being available one weekend a month and two weeks a year for training. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Interviews patient, family, significant others to formulate a medical history; Observes, identifies and collects data to identify medical care needs of the patient and family; Identifies and treats abnormal diagnostic data and clinical changes in patient's condition; Documents patient problems and medical care needs of the patient and family/significant others; Actively involves patient and family/significant others in planning patient's care; Develops short- and long-term goals for the patient and family/significant others; Identifies the need to involve other disciplines in the patient's care; Provides for the safety, cleanliness and comfort of the patient; Initiates emergency procedures as needed within the scope of practice and clinic policy; Evaluates the patient's response to medical care; Updates and revises care to be delivered as patients' needs change; Appropriately communicates changes and care given to other members of the health care team; Assumes leadership role and delegates medical care; Assigns tasks appropriately and guides team members based on their skills and abilities; Maintains awareness of legal aspects of clinic services; Conducts patient care seminars and classes. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Oregon board-certified, licensed physician from a fully-accredited medical school; Applicant must show proof of board certification and degree(s); Current/valid license/certification to practice medicine in the State of Oregon; DEA certificate and CPR certification; Board certified with any current certificate in a specialty area, a perk; Ability to provide diagnostic treatment and counseling services; Ability to analyze situations and take effective action; Excellent interpersonal skills in order to interact with office personnel, patients, and their families, etc; Possesses a high degree of confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism. Interprets examination findings and test results, and implements treatment plans; determines need for consultation and assists in medical care and treatment provided at the direction of other specialists; manages family practice inpatients, conducts ward rounds, and prescribes inpatient therapy; participates in surgical, obstetrical, gynecological and critical care procedures according to training and demonstrated ability; and schedules activities for the Family Practice Clinic, and assigns medical officers, nurses, and medical technicians.
